1983 Range Rover Classic

The 1983 4 Door Automatic Range Rover Classic is special because it comes from the roots of Monteverdi and Overfinch even more so than Land Rover. Even though Land Rover had four door Range Rover prototypes in the early 1970s, they decided against production due to the cost of manufacturing two different models of an already radically new vehicle. Not very long after the Range Rover had been in production, demand came for a 4 door rover so Swiss design and manufacturing house Monteverdi answered with a 4 door variant.  For a manufacturer whose normal yearly production stayed in the double digits, it was a wild success with 300 models.

Monteverdi teamed up with another Land Rover modification house, Scholar Presses ( later known as Overfinch), to offer a conversion to the simple but robust Chrysler 727 Torqueflite - the first automatic Range Rover.  Some very savvy customers bought the first 4 door automatic Range Rovers back in 1981 before Land Rover even offered them. It wasn’t until the 1982 model year that Land Rover came to their senses and created the 4 door Range Rover Classic in house, and shorty there after also met the demands of their customers and offered an automatic transmission: the Chrysler 727 Torqueflite.  This simple bulletproof combination was offered up until 1985 when Land Rover switched to a 4 speed ZF Automatic.

This 1983 Range Rover is a Leyland rarity. It's a highly optioned 1983 Range Rover 4 Door finished in a special order Lincoln Green, equipped with a carbureted 3.5L V8 Engine and the infamous Torqueflite 727 3 Speed Transmission.  It has Option Pack A which included air conditioning; alloy wheels; metallic paint or, in this case, special order paint; front and rear armrests; rear headrests; wood door capping; and loadspace and tailgate carpeting.  This cost a grand total of £17,497.50 in 1983 and was the most expensive model you could buy.

We are offering this Range Rover, which has 85,000 original kms, for $20,000 - that price puts it at your door (anywhere in the continental US) with a US title.
